Description

The entry point, and the one to size carefully.

5,000 BTU/hr in the smallest cabinet Penguin builds, 39 lb and 16.25 inches wide. It is the cheapest way into a proper chilled plunge, and it is also the unit most often bought a size too small.

It suits a small insulated tub indoors. If your tub is over about 100 gallons, sits outside, or catches afternoon sun, the high efficiency ½ HP or a 1 HP will hold temperature where this one will run continuously and still drift.

Before you order
  • This is the one people under-size. Good for a small, well insulated, indoor tub. Over roughly 100 gallons, or outdoors, step up. Tell us the volume and where it sits and we will tell you straight whether this is enough.
  • No pump in the box. This is the chiller alone. A plunge build also needs a pump and tubing, and Penguin's own accessory pump package is not rated for cold therapy use. Tell us your tub and we will spec the pump before you order rather than after.
  • Power. 3.9A on a standard socket. Not on an extension lead.
  • Delivery. Ships free to the contiguous 48 states from Penguin's Tennessee factory.
You will also need a pump

A chiller does not circulate water on its own. It needs a pump to move water between the chiller and your plunge.

We recommend running the pump submersed. Submersed operation keeps the pump primed, runs quieter, and puts no load on the pump inlet. It can also be plumbed in line. If you do, hand-tighten the fitting at the inlet, do not force it, and support the weight of the pipework so it does not bear on the pump body. The inlet is the part most likely to be damaged by an over-tightened or unsupported fitting.
